How'd They Meet?
Oof, you've been out of the loop for a while. Or maybe you're just a glutton for the story. Anyway.
Lauren and Jake met in Ireland in 2012. They'd both decided, hey, a little world travel might be good, and ended up meeting in the same hostel. They started hanging out, figured they were both pretty cool, and got to be good friends. Jake left to continue traveling around Ireland, but couldn't get Lauren out of his mind, so he changed plans and went back to the hostel to tell her how he felt. She felt the same way, and they agreed to do the whole long-distance letter writing thing because Jake had a plane ticket back to Canada.
They parted, and for a few weeks, the letter-writing thing worked just dandy. However, as soon as Jake landed back home, he knew he had to go back. He quickly jumped through some hoops - made sure his house and job would be taken care of - and bought a one-way ticket back to Ireland, where he surprised Lauren with an invitation to wine and truffles on the old city wall.
The two of them have basically been inseparable since. It's pretty sickening.

Proposal Story
The day was innocent; the mood, light. Jake had promised a belated birthday adventure to Lauren, and today, they were going hot air ballooning.
They woke up early, got coffee, and met Jake's brother Jason and his then-girlfriend/now-wife, Natasha, at a parking lot off the highway. They and eight other people who are not important to the story piled into a van, which drove them to a small green field. Once the balloon was inflated, they and the other balloon adventurers drifted up into the foggy morning, over pumpkin patches, unimpressed donkeys, and winding brooks.
After a bumpy landing in an old cow pasture, Lauren and Jake watched the balloon deflate. It was at this point that Jake, who had brought along a large side bag for no apparent reason, confessed that there was one more part to the surprise and pulled out a small TARDIS-shaped ring box. Lauren had to take a moment to remember how to speak English, but once she did, she said yes. Well, her exact words were, "Of course I will!", but you get the idea. Jason and Natasha helpfully took photographs and video.
The newly engaged couple had champagne with their fellow ballooners (a hot air ballooning tradition [who knew?]) before piling back into the van and contacting those individuals who had extracted promises to be alerted the moment an engagement occurred.
